The Legacy of the Wise — Leaving a Mark That Matters

Woman speaking to a group of women at a faith conference, symbolizing legacy and wisdom

"She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard." – Proverbs 31:16

I almost didn't speak that day. The "Virtuous Woman" conference schedule in Uganda was full. But when the organizers heard I'd be in the country that exact weekend, they made room for me at the end. And I'm so glad they did.

Because close to 300 women gathered in that space. They didn't just hear a message—they received an impartation.

I spoke on legacy—how to leave a mark that matters.

One particular young lady in the audience kept engaging with me.

Afterward, she found me.

With bright eyes, a broad smile, and a full heart, she said, "I've never heard legacy broken down like that before."

We talked for quite a while, and I found out she is a mentor.

Her name was Anna. And now, I will mentor her as much as my time will allow.

And so the circle begins.

What can you leave behind?

Not fame – it's fleeting.

Not fortune – it fades.

Not even followers – they can be fickle.

But your Words, your Walk, and your Wisdom—these are lasting. Let's break that down:

🔸 Your Words

  • Words carry weight.

  • What you say has the power to build up or tear down.

  • When your words are rooted in truth and spoken with love, they echo long after you're gone.

  • Encouragement, correction, blessing, wisdom—don't underestimate the power of your voice.

What are you saying?

🔸 Your Walk

  • Your example is your loudest message.

  • How you carry yourself through trials, decisions, and relationships shows others what faith looks like in motion.

  • People may forget what you said, but they won't forget how you lived.

How do you show up every day?

🔸 Your Wisdom

  • Wisdom isn't just what you know—it's how you apply what God has taught you.

  • It's the discernment you've gained through life's victories and valleys.

  • Your wisdom can help someone else avoid pitfalls, make better choices, and walk in purpose sooner.

How are you sharing your wisdom with others?

So, what do you do with all of this?

You don't bury it.

You build with it.

Here's how you leave a mark that matters:

✅ Share it.

Your story is not just for you. Share your testimony, your life lessons, your wins, and your wounds. You never know who needs to hear precisely what you've lived through.

✅ Sow it.

Plant your time, talent, and truth into others. Mentor a young woman. Speak life into someone's dry season. What you sow in faith, God multiplies in others.

✅ Steward it.

What God gave you is sacred. Guard your calling. Manage your influence well. Use your gifts wisely so they produce fruit that remains.

So yes, your legacy lives on.

But not just in a document or a donation. It lives on in the people you've raised, the ones you've reached, And even the ones you've released.

That's what it means to leave a mark that matters. How are you living your legacy today?

What a beautiful reminder that our legacy isn’t defined by what we collect, but by what we cultivate in others. Your words about Words, Walk, and Wisdom truly resonate — they capture what it means to live a life that continues to speak long after we’ve left the room.
