“The only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work hard for them.” - Michelle Obama
What does it take to do the things we are too afraid to do? I always wondered why the things we dream about, the very things that add life to our days, are the same things that terrify us.
Acting on those dreams is the only way we could create #success. But dreams will stay dreams without action, and with action, dreams become goals.
They say the body has two responses to fear—flight or fight. But there is one no one talks about, freeze. It’s fear that will make us freeze, and fear that will make us fight.
Think of fear like misplaced energy. You can use it to attack the day and do so with an energy you didn’t know you had because it has been working against you all along.
Being brave is not the same thing as being fearless. You can only be brave when you are afraid, not when you think there is nothing to lose.
The Endless Checklist
#Makeaplan for the day, week, month, and even year. Taking action alone won’t create success because we need to focus our efforts.
The key to creating success is abandoning the idea that it will come when you check everything off your list. Success is action and #actionissuccess.
Every day is a new day and that means every day we have to make the #decisiontoact. We can all think of a time when we’ve been inspired to act for one day, maybe even a few days. But as time went on, the inspiration was no longer enough to keep us moving.
Forget about the finish line because there isn’t one. You should have a #checklist to focus your actions, but you should never stop adding to it.
Have a Why to Your What
Figuring out why you want to do it is just as important as figuring out what you want to do. It’s not enough just to want it.
Making the decision to act everyday will rely on this. The why has to align with who you are and what connects with you the most.
Over time, you will #change. This means your reasons will change, too. Don’t make the mistake of clinging on to the reasons that no longer connect with you.
Ask yourself these questions.
· Why am I doing this?
· How does this align with who I am?
· How does this make me feel?
· Is this reason enough for me?
Really think about these questions and let the answers be your guide towards taking action again and again.
Roll the Dice
For a lot of us, it’s not enough just to act. There has to be some luck involved. You might have to be at the right place and the right time, and the chances may not be in your favor.
But #takingaction increases our chances. You might have heard the saying, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” This is the same idea.
Continuous action is the only way to play against unfavorable odds. To be in the #rightplace at the #righttime, you have to put yourself there as much as you can. The more you act, the more opportunities will come your way.
Opportunities are a lot like riding a wave. You have to be on the water always looking out for them to happen. You can be sitting on the water for hours before a wave finally shows up and when it does, you’d better be standing on your board!
So, roll the dice and keep rolling them. You will never get closer to beating the odds if you take yourself out of the game.
Take Action—Create Success
Achieving #success isn’t easy, but you don’t want it to be easy. Nothing worth having comes easy. You’re a fighter. It’s inside you and it’s inside all of us.
Now, it’s time to get the ball rolling and keep it rolling. That’s what life is all about.
After digesting all the information you've just read, it's time to go back and answer the questions. I hope you now have a clear answer when you ask yourself:
Why am I doing this?
How does this align with who I am?
How does this make me feel?
Is this reason enough for me?
